Sophie Agbonkhese

Q: What was your motivation for coming to the MLOG program?

Prior to MLOG, I worked as a Procurement Analyst at BC Hydro where I developed an interest in supply chain management. I also had a rapidly growing passion for sustainability, and I wanted to explore strategies for creating more sustainable supply chains. Studying at MIT, a leader in both logitics and sustainability research, made perfect sense as a way of progressing my career into this area.

Q:  What do you hope to learn in this program?

While my primary goal is to learn about supply chain management and sustainability, I feel like the real benefit of studying at MIT is learning about topics that I didn't even know I didn't know. Being in the MLOG program has exposed me to new ideas, new subjects, new people, and new career opportunities. The program allows you to learn as much as your brain can hold in nine months.

Q: How do you hope to apply your experience here at MLOG in your future career plans?

In addition to the educational aspect of the program, MLOG has helped me build personal and professional networks that will be essential to my post-graduation career placement. My goal is to use the knowledge I've gained through my courses--particularly those with real world projects--to have a significant strategic impact on my future employer's operations.

Q: What would you say to a prospective student thinking about joining the MLOG program?

If possible, prospective students should try to visit the campus, sit in on a class or two, and talk to some students and professors. This will help you understand what the program is like, and if it's a good match for you.

As far as logistics and supply chain management education goes, this program is one of the best. The people you will work with are intelligent, passionate, experienced, and engaging. Also, the recruiting program is excellent and there are many opportunities for networking with senior members of global companies.

I do feel compelled to mention that the MLOG program is extremely intense. You probably will not sleep much in the year you spend here. But it's worth it.

Q: Where are your favorite places to go to unwind?

Honestly, I don't find that I have much time to unwind. I have my children here with me so we try to go to the beach, or the park, or the zoo when we get a chance. There are also many great restaurants in Boston and Cambridge.
