MIT

Program in Polymer Science and Technology
Admission

PPST faculty welcome the interest of qualified students and will be pleased to answer inquiries concerning graduate study. Students applying to PPST should have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a field of Science or Engineering. As PPST is an interdepartmental program, applications should be directed to a department, usually that of the student's previous degree. Please visit the MIT Graduate Admissions Office Testing Requirements web page for information about testing requirements for all MIT departments, including those affiliated with PPST.

The process is outlined below:

  1. Obtain graduate application materials from the MIT department of your choice (see links below for more information).

    NOTE:
PPST accepts applications for FALL admission only. Please consult MIT's Graduate Admission web page for departmental application deadlines.

    Participating MIT departments:

    Materials Science and Engineering

    Chemical Engineering

    Chemistry

    Mechanical Engineering

  2. On your application form under "Program of Study" indicate PPST
  3. Return the application to your chosen department
  4. Once you have been accepted to a department's graduate program, your application will be forwarded to the PPST office for consideration
  5. In addition to sending your application to the department of your choice, PPST recommends that you send a one-page letter of notification directly to the PPST office to let us know that your application has been submitted.Your letter should include your name, postal address, email address, undergraduate school name, undergraduate program of study, and the name of the MIT department to which your application was submitted. It is not necessary to send a copy of your application to PPST.

About your admission application

Some departments require submission of test scores on both the aptitude and the advanced portion of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). The advanced test should be taken in the student's undergraduate major.

Since admission and financial aid are both highly competitive, application forms should be completed with care. The more we know of your experience, professional plans, and perspectives on the field of polymers, the better we can process your application.
