Job Description
The National University of Singapore invites applications for a postdoctoral research position in design, fabrication and experimentation with bioMEMS (micro-fluidic devices for processing biological cells and molecules).

Requirements
The candidate should possess a PhD from a reputable University and have a strong background in experimentation with microfluidic devices. Strongest consideration will be given to applicants with a background in microdevices for at least some of the following: microfluidic flow, electrophoresis, acoustophoresis, and cell trapping and sorting.

Remuneration & Benefits
Gross monthly salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Leave and medical benefits will be provided.

Term of Appointment
The appointment can commence immediately and will be initially for one year with possibility for extension of up to an additional two years.

Requirements
The candidate should possess a PhD from a reputable University and have a strong background in numerical algorithms and analysis, as well as some experience developing numerical software. Strong considerations will be given to applicants with a background in numerical techniques for at least some of the following: integral equations, boundary integral method, multiphysics, model-order reduction and fast solvers.

Job Description
Three researchers are sought for regarding investigations in the area of data management and mining in systems biology. Each researcher will contribute to one of three complementary research projects funded by Singapore-MIT Alliance (SMA).The research focus of these three positions is any one of the following topics:
  • Investigate efficient and scalable techniques for building storage and query tools for biological data. A key goal is to build tools that can enhance the usability of the system by biologists.
  • Investigate efficient and scalable techniques for in-silico combinational drug therapy.
  • Investigate efficient and scalable techniques for summarizing and comparing protein interaction/molecular network data.
The positions are in a motivated, cooperative, and friendly team consisting of doctoral students. The projects are led by Assoc/P Sourav S Bhowmick of NTU and Prof C Forbes Dewey, Jr of MIT, USA and have collaboration with biologists and computation biologists. The team is dedicated to the training of young researchers especially research assistants and doctoral students.  The candidate will closely work with doctoral students and project leaders.

The School of Computer engineering of the Nanyang Technological University, of which the team is a part, is dynamic and engaged in various research activities.

Requirements
Applicant must have a computer science/engg. Degree/Master degree from a good University with very good grades. Undergraduate may apply. A good knowledge of data management techniques, algorithms, and data mining (optional) is required. Knowledge of biology is not mandatory for Project 1. It is preferable to have basic understanding of biology for projects 2 and 3. Excellence, reliability, capability of independent as well as team work, aptitude to theoretical as well as practical work, very good programming skills, very good control of the English language are expected and able to start immediately.

Remuneration & Benefits
Gross salary will range from S$35,000 yearly, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Leave and medical benefits will be provided.

Term of Appointment
For a start, contract is limited to June 2010. In case of a positive evaluation of achievements, which is expected, it is highly likely that this position will be extended for at least one more year.
