Academic Computing Management Group (ACMG)

ACMG serves as an advisory group to individuals and groups responsible for the Academic Computing Practice, in particular the Director of Academic Computing, ITLT, and IS teams involved with Academic Computing at MIT. It is also a coordinating council for the Athena Computing Environment.

ACMG Charter

ACMG is chaired by the Director of Academic Computing. Its core membership consists of the team leaders who are involved with Academic Computing in general and with the Athena Computing Environment in particular, and its agenda is set by the Director from items submitted by that group. Other attendees are welcome when topics on the agenda are discussed that involve their interest and/or expertise.

ACMG is intended to:

  • Foster a sense of community among team leaders who are physically located in separate buildings around campus.
  • Facilitate communication and information sharing, both between the various team leaders and to staff by means of minutes.
  • Identify issues that need to be addressed, and provide a starting point for discussion about cross-group issues and projects.
  • Provide a forum for discussion of issues and policies, as well as projects and services.
  • Spawn and sponsor ad hoc tasks forces on particular issues and advise the Process Leaders and ITLT in appointing and charging appropriate teams for longer term projects.
  • Influence planning, direction, and priorities of IS in general and the work of teams in particular.
  • recommend action as necessary and appropriate
  • direct/channel decisions to appropriate agencies within IS with recommendations representing the consensus of the group.
Decisions of ACMG should be seen as strong recommendations for ITLT and for IS.

ACMG meets twice monthly. Minutes of meetings are distributed to the 'acteams' mailing list, consisting of team members and other staff members within IS who are involved with Athena and Academic Computing.
