The Neural Control of Vision
O. Illusions

This three-fold combination is quite effective in disrupting the cohesiveness of apparent motion.

These observations suggest the following:

  1. 1. There is a strong tendency for apparent motion to be perceived cohesively over a large area of the visual field.

  2. 2. As long as size is relatively constant, color and shape have limited influence on the perceived apparent motion.

  3. 3. Size differences do influence the direction of motion perceived.

  4. 4. Combining color, shape and size cues enhances the effect.
