The Neural
Control of Vision
P.
Ongoing Research
Ongoing research in the Schiller laboratory on
the visual system is engaged in two major projects: Visual prosthetics,
which is described in Section 3 (add link), and depth perception, which
is described here. The research on depth perception is carried out both
in humans and monkeys. We examine the following questions:
-
How effectively are the various depth cues,
which include stereopsis, motion parallax and shading, processed and
integrated?
-
Which visual areas are involved in the processing
of stereopsis, motion parallax and shading?
-
How does brain organization differ in intact
and stereo blind subjects?
To answer these questions we use three methods:
psychophysics, fMRI brain imaging and single-cell recordings. In this
section we provide a brief description of the psychophysical and brain
imaging work.
