The Neural Control of Vision
P. Ongoing Research

A. Psychophysical studies:

We have devised a display system that allows us to present various depth cues in concert or separately. The display, viewed through a stereoscope, is a random-dot array that is rocked back and forth along a vertical axis. In the first set of experiments we assessed the effectiveness of motion parallax and disparity cues for depth processing, a three dimensional rendition of which is depicted in Figure 16-1. The task was to detect the location of a small square that protruded in depth. The degree of disparity and motion parallax cues was randomly varied and the two cues were presented either together or separately. The target appeared in one of four locations.
