the responses of a simple and complex cell in V1 to drifting sinusoid gratings of various spatial frequenciesFigure 13 shows the responses of a simple and complex cell to drifting sinusoidal gratings of different spatial frequency selectivity. The cells are tuned in that they prefer certain spatial frequencies more than others. The simple cell responds distinctly to each bar in the grating. Almost all simple and complex cells demonstrate spatial frequency selectivity.
