CONFIDENTIALITY POLICY: All conversations will be held in strict confidence and action will only be taken with the permission of the visitor – except with the unusual situation of imminent risk of serious harm to self or others.

Confidentiality describes communications, which are intended to be held in secret. This is accomplished by providing anonymity to the source and nature of those communications. The BioREFS are committed to holding communications in strict confidence. We will not answer questions about people with whom we have spoken or disclose names or issues discussed unless they are given explicit permission to do so. The only exception to this pledge of confidentiality is where the REF involved determines that there is an imminent risk of danger. Though members of the MIT Biology department, the BioREFS are independent from both the Biology department and MIT. We have no reporting responsibilities.
