The Massachusetts Institute of Technology hosts blood drives five times a year, but since these drives usually run multiple days per drive, it is equal to them running between 20 and 25 blood drives per year for the Red Cross. The MIT blood drives are sponsored by Jonathon Weiss who created an online appointment system and a network of volunteers to help promote the on-campus blood drives. Last year, MIT was responsible for providing 1,161 units of lifesaving blood to the American Red Cross.Former MIT blood drive coordinator John Hodges '81, was also recognized at the event, for his current work running blood drives at his church in Arlington, MA.
I (Jonathon) wanted to pass my thanks along to all of our donors and volunteers, and especially to the others who help coordinate our drives. Thank You.

The American Red Cross Blood Services has been working with the volunteer students and staff of MIT ARCTAN to collect units of blood from the MIT community. The Boston Red Cross Blood Services visits MIT five times every year. We ask for your help in meeting constant demand for blood in our region. It is MIT policy to allow employees time off with pay to donate blood at the drives that are sponsored on campus. Please make an appointment by filling out the form below and you will receive a confirmation via email. You can still just walk in and donate, but scheduling an appointment allows the Red Cross to better prepare for the drive and will help make donations faster. Thank you very much for your time and support. |
