Registering for the Octopus War
In order to be considered for the throne, you must do the following things.
- Procure an Octopus: An octopus can be acquired by making
a request to the Octopus
Obtainance Officers. If you prefer, you can provide
your own octopus. Note that if you provide a squid instead of an octopus,
you will be on the evil team. The Vizier himself
may fly out to assist you with various fellowship challenges, but no one
else will.
- Provide your Octopus with an Official Name, Residence,
and Contact (email) Address:
If you requested an octopus, the Official Residence will be the
address we mailed it to. If
you provided your own, you must provide an official mailing address.
Both the Residence and the Contact Address will be
provided to the other players, so that you can coordinate with each
other and mail artifacts and octopodes around, but we'll
password-protect the page so that spammers don't get it.
- Confirm Receipt of your Octopus: You do this by sending
us a glamorous picture of your octopus at his or her Residence.
(This and other pictures may be emailed to octopodes@mit.edu;
if that ends up being problematic for anyone, we'll arrange an
alternative.) Your octopus entry will be added to the Official
Roster once we receive the picture.
- Optional: Octopus Sidekick Rule: Your octopus may
have a Sidekick (another octopus) which may assist in the competition in a
limited role. The Sidekick does not qualify as a second octopus in
the Test of Fellowship, but it may assist
in other Tests. A Sidekick octopus must be smaller than the main
Registered octopus. (Sidekick octopodes will be provided, upon
request, for Small Children.)
