We are very excited to announce the 3rd Annual MIT Sloan BPS
Mini-Conference. The conference will take place May 9-10th, 2008
here at the MIT Sloan School of Management in Cambridge,
Massachusetts.
The Behavioral and Policy Sciences (BPS) area of the MIT Sloan
School of Management brings together researchers exploring a wide
range of organizational phenomena using a variety of methods. The
substantive content of the scholarship performed within the area
ranges considerably--from entrepreneurship to international
management, from labor relations to group behavior and more. This
diversity of areas is equally matched by the range of methods applied
to their study, including ethnography, surveys and interviews,
analyses of archival data, and experimental approaches. One of the
things that makes BPS such an exciting research community to those who
are a part of it is the extent to which contributions from a multitude
of disciplinary approaches are valued.
The idea that organizational research is well-served by drawing upon
methods and approaches from a diversity of disciplinary backgrounds
is the foundation upon which we have built this conference. To this
end, we have identified a set of presenters and participants who,
though they come from different research traditions, are actively
working on problems we think will be interesting to anyone studying
organizations and management. This conference is also designed to
showcase the work of more junior scholars in the early stages of
their careers, in an effort to build ties and relationships to shape
the future of organizational scholarship.
