The Kokyu Bridge

On of the things that bothered me the most when researching how to repair my kokyu is I couldn't find any good pictures of the bridge. I couldn't even find out if it was flat or curved. So I ordered on from Japan and hope that I can make a new one myself if it ever breaks.

The shape makes sense for a bowed instrument. The middle string is raised so you can play it without playing the other strings. There's also a hole in the center to make it light enough to vibrate with the strings.

The bridge is very flat and slightly hollow underneith.

The bridge is placed under the strings and tipped up. It is placed closer to the neck than to the base (according to the pictures I found on the web.)

Each string has a notch to sit in on the bridge.
