CMS Mag

About CMS Mag

CMS Mag™ is a production of MIT's graduate students in Comparative Media Studies.

Overworked, underpaid, grumpy, and suffering from chronic bedhead, CMS grads are opinionated and too often prone to venting their most cherished and clearly-right-and-everybody-else-is-an-idiot theories in wild sprees of gesticulatory rhetoric. This can be dangerous. Concerned that someone would lose an eye from a passionately outflung hand, a few CMS grads suggested that we express ourselves online instead, and so it was that this on-line magazine/personal soapbox was born.

The mind moving in circles can be considered unproductive. Not so with CMS. Our circle moves from ideas to application to theories to plastic art. It moves and shifts. And it explores! Spirals, whirls, vortices envelop and round and surround us. Autumn leaves lazily waltz their way to rest on a glorious bed of golden, rust, and brown. And our ball of blue and white fluff twirls flirtatiously around the sun amid the dizzying shifting revolutions of the cosmos.

Being artists, photographers, philosophers, filmmakers, actors, writers, musicians, and dancers, yet also coders, architects, technicians, engineers, and teachers, we live in a nether world between art and science. And so CMS Mag is a space for us to draw our two sides together, to be whole, and to present to the world the works that grow out of that synthesis.

From our ever expanding circle, to yours.
