Second Summer Program (SSP), fostered by the MIT OME (Office of Minority Education) , provides students practical industry experience as paid engineering interns during the summer after the first year at MIT. Student participation requires successful completion of the freshman core and a two-week design workshop, held during the Independent Activities Period (IAP) in January.
