Australian International Film Festival 1996

The inaugural Australian International Film Festival will be held in
Canberra, the Australia Capital, from 11 to 13 October 1996.

The Festival's purpose is to promote film culture and filmmakers, and
support multiculturalism, by screening the best international and local
films from as wide a variety of ethnic, cultural and racial backgrounds as
possible.

The festival especially welcomes entries from independent filmmakers, and
first time directors, as well as films from known filmmakers and
distributors.

This is a non competitive Festival, however the Festival organisers will
award a 'Most Popular Film (YEAR) Australian International Film Festival'
prize chosen by a general vote of Festival patrons.

FESTIVAL RULES:

1. THE FESTIVAL
The Australian International Film Festival will be held in Canberra, the
Australia Capital, in early October each year. It is a non profit Festival
initiated by the University of Canberra Convocation.

2. ENTRY FEE
There is NO entry fee for the Festival.

3 SCREENINGS
All screenings will take place in a well established commercial cinema, and
projected by an experienced projectionist.

4 FILMS
The festival is open to animation, documentary, experimental and fiction
films. All films must be of feature length, or shorts up to 25 minutes in
length. Only Australian short films can be entered into the short film
category. All films must be made in either 35mm or 16mm, and not
commercially released in Australia before the festival. All films entered
must have been completed no more than three years previously.

The Festival guarantees to respect all artistic and technical
characteristics of the film.

5 FILM LANGUAGES
The Festival accepts films in ALL languages, but only in their original
languages. It will not accept films that have been dubbed. Non English
language films must have English language subtitles.

6 COMPETITION
It is a non competitive Festival.

However, the Festival organisers will award a 'Most Popular Film (YEAR)
Australian International Film Festival' prize to be chosen by a general
vote of Festival patrons.

7 FILM SELECTION
All films will be selected by the Festival Selection Team and no
correspondence shall be entered into.

8 SELECTION PROCESS.
All entries for preview must be on PAL VHS video cassettes and accompanied
by a completed entry form. All entry forms must be completed in ENGLISH.
All entry forms must be accompanied by a typed synopsis of the film in
ENGLISH.

If you forward the entry form via email, please do not alter or shorten it
in anyway. All entries must be received by the Festival organisers NO
LATER THAN 9 August .

The Festival will not accept responsibility for misunderstandings
resulting from any alteration to the official entry form.

Video cassettes will not be returned.

Entrants of selected films will be notified by early September.

9 SHIPMENT
The Festival will pay the costs for shipment of each film selected to
screen at the Festival from one destination to the Festival and to one
destination from the Festival.

10 REQUIREMENTS OF FILMS SELECTED
All films selected must provide the following documentation:

a) a typed synopsis of the film in English

b) a biography, filmography and recent photograph of the Director

c) a cinema trailer on either 35mm or 16mm and a television trailer on
Betacam video cassette

d) any reviews or press write ups about the film

e) a list of any festivals that have screened the film, and any awards the
film has received

f) a press kit for the film including
# several photographs - both black and white, and colour
# several advertising posters

11 INSURANCE
The Festival will insure all films during transport to and from the
Festival, and against fire, damage and loss during the Festival

12 PROGRAM
The Festival will decide on the order and dates of the screenings. The
Festival organisers reserve the right to screen retrospectives, or films
that do not meet Rule 4.

13 FESTIVAL LANGUAGE
The official language of the Festival is English, and all correspondence
will be in English.

14 RULES
Participation in the Festival means that the entrant has accepted and
agreed to abide in the rules of the Festival. Interpretation of Festival
rules will be made by the Festival Organising Team and no correspondence
will be entered into. The Festival Organising Team reserves the right to
change any or all the rules of the Festival.
