After the posting from Guinea-Bissau's INEP (national research archive).
California Newsreel has just acquired for distribution in North America, the
first feature film from Guinea-Bissau, entitled MORTU NEGA. Completed in
1988, MORTU NEGA by Flora Gomes was the first dramatic film to examine the
country's war of independence from the Portuguese, life in the liberated
areas, and the immediate results of independence for the country's populace.
Given recent events in Guinea-Bissau, the availability of MORTU NEGA perhaps
    takes on greater significance.
