Next message: Steve Smith: "FW: Response: Cry the Beloved Country"
A propos of the Dani Kouyate film: my library has it, but I'm looking for a
related film called LES NOMS NHAIBITENT NULLE PART (THE NAMES DON'T LIVE
ANYWHERE) made by a Belgian woman, and starring Sotigui Kouyate as a griot
who tries (unsuccessfully) to reconnect Africans in Europe with their
Sundiata narratives and inheritance. (The great Senegalese actor Nar Sene
plays one of them.) I'd like to be able to teach the two films together,
since they have the same guy playing the griot, but differ so dramatically
on how hard it is to recuperate that heritage. Do you have any idea where I
could buy this film? I saw it (with English subtitles) at a festival in the
U.S., but haven't been able to get any ordering info.
