Structures I Lab Case Study Final Presentation

There are two parts to the final presentation: the case study documentation and the oral presentation. Each part is an important part of the learning process and should be considered. The case study documentation will be available for all to peruse and evaluate. The oral presentation will be within your section and provide you with the opportunity to describe in a concise manner the behavior of your case study structure.

A book of case study work by earlier students is available at Professor Luebkeman's office (5-418) for perusal. The on-line work can be found at Architectonics Studio Resources: Case Studies.

Final Presentation Format
Your final documentation should be in an electronic (HTML) format, but can be physical as well. A sample of a virtual case study format is found here. If virtual, the final presentation must be transferred to the instructor as a zip disk, floppy, or MO. The media will be returned. If in physical form, it must be ink on mylar or other reproducible medium in 11" x 17" format. You should keep at least one copy of the final drawings for your records since most of them will not be returned.

The information that is presented below should be found on the appropriate pages. Clarity and accuray are critical. Full bibliographic sources MUST always be correctly cited.

Part 1: General Locator

Graphical description of the Geographical Location (i.e. map(s))
Structure Name (in the local language)
Architect and Engineer's names (if known)
Dates of Construction (design, completion)
Student Author's Name(s)
Course and Term
Professor's Name

Part 2: Existing Drawings/Information

Site Plan(s)
Plans
Sections
Elevations
Bibliography of the sources

Part 3: Design

Overview of the architectural design concepts of/for the building
Overview of the structural design concepts of/for the building
Description of the design loads and reasons for their choice

Part 4: Construction/Structural Section(s)

This should explain in as great detail as possible in a peel-away drawing the construction of a section of the structure. This should indicate the materials used for the surfaces and the loads that are assumed to act. The flow of forces due to dead load, vertical live load, and horizontal live load should be graphically represented.

Part 5: Analysis

This part should include screen shots and or QuickTime movies of the MultiFrame analysis of the structure.

Part 6: Conclusions

This part should include a description of the most interesting aspect of the building from a structural design standpoint. It should include a commentary on the applicability of the design to contemporary building.
