Pier Luigi Nervi's Pierelli headquarters in Milano, Italy is a wonderful structure. Note the way in which the form of the load-bearing structure changes as a reflection of the magnitude of the internal forces. It is essentially a huge cantilever!
The plan and the section of the Pirelli Building.
The Vierzehnheiligen church was discussed in relationship to the light and the trusses. The slate covered neighboring structurees were also discussed.
The "orgainic" form of the floor of Nervi which reflects the pattern of the primary stress pattern. This is sometimes known as the "flow of the forces" of the flat slab.
Johnson Wax Headquarters Building in Racine, Wisconson by Frank Lloyd Wright. The relationship of the form of the columns and their "feet" were discussed.
High Museum in Atlanta, Georgia by Richard Meier. The relationship between the column and the wall, amoung other issues relating to the moment of inertia were discussed.
Transportation Terminal in Chur, Switzerland by Peter Rice. The entire construction sequence was discussed.
