Master of Science in Real Estate Development (MSRED)

MIT's Master of Science in Real Estate Development (MSRED) is the most concentrated, science-based graduate degree in real estate available. Launched in 1983 by the MIT Center for Real Estate, the MSRED is the first one-year degree of its kind, fulfilling a need for specialized education beyond the scope of the traditional MBA. The MSRED prepares men and women to compete in the global market with superior qualifications — providing the research-based expertise necessary to solve complex problems in contemporary real estate.

One-Year Intensive

Most graduate degrees in real estate last two years. They typically require a year of study in general business coursework before concentrating on real estate.

By contrast, the one-year MSRED focuses solely on the real estate asset and its related disciplines. Using resources from one of the worlds premier institutions, we offer an advanced program that draws on the MIT Schools of Architecture and Planning, Engineering, Economics, and Sloan School of Management.

The MIT Difference

MIT's reputation is global. It earned its reputation by producing gifted engineers who solve practical problems in innovative ways.

The MIT Center for Real Estate was founded in that same multidisciplinary spirit. In a setting of rigorous academic inquiry, we offer a Masters program that balances real estate theory and practice — applying research to real-world problems in a disciplined intellectual framework.

A Community of Experience

Candidates for the MSRED come to the Program with substantial experience in the real estate industry. Our program offers them a chance to sharpen their skills by working with other students of exceptional promise.

Building partnerships that will last long after graduation, our students learn team building in an international context, applying their gifts in creative ways to build better living environments around the globe.

Global Results

Since the program's inception, MIT has awarded hundreds of MSRED degrees to students from twenty-five countries, and the results speak for themselves.

Working as planners, developers, entrepreneurs, contractors, brokers, financiers, legal professionals, and policy makers, our graduates serve throughout the domestic and international industry, holding positions of leadership in the real estate profession worldwide.
