A central component of the LARA project is the facility survey with a nationally representative sample of aerospace facilities. The aim of the survey is to examine instability and new work systems across a broad range of aerospace industry participants. The data will allow the research team to develop a much clearer snapshot of the status of instability and mitigation issues in the industry than has been previously possible.
Project
team members identified a
sample drawn from a national
aerospace directory and supplemented
with data from the Lean Aerospace
Initiative and other sources.
The survey was not only available
in a printed version, but
was also developed in a web-based
version that allowed participants
to complete and submit an
electronic survey. The final
sample of includes 196 valid
responses.
This survey provides the
LARA project and other aerospace researchers with an
invaluable tool that will allow in depth analysis of
the industry at one moment in time.
The
LARA team plans on establishing
a panel research project that
allows times series data to
be collected from this same
set of respondents. Such a
research design allows long-term
analysis of industry changes.
Long-term analysis is a key
ingredient to support subsequent
policy recommendations to
labor, government, industry,
and academia.
