Why Join Us?

We are a student-run group that provides lighting services to the MIT community! We work all kinds of events including late night parties, cultural shows, conferences, and dance showcases!

There is no experience needed to join, and you can earn up to $30/hr working some of the most popular events at MIT.

What is E33?▲
E33 is a student group that runs lighting events on campus, and teaches our members the fundamentals of lighting systems and design!

We are comprised of our Board, Production Managers (PM), and Contacts. Our Board runs the logistics of the club and makes sure things go smoothly. Our PMs are trusted and experienced members who lead individual events and train new members on the job. Contacts are everyone, the reason E33 can do what we do!
How does E33 work?▲
E33 Production Managers are connected with clients from all over campus to design and run event lighting with the help of E33 members, or contacts. We emphasize the passing down of technical lighting and lighting design knowledge to MIT students, and allowing our campus to have professional-level lighting at events.
Will I be paid?▲
Yes! We pay our members between $18/hr and $30/hr, depending on the type of work and time of day. Generally, work between noon and midnight is $18/hr, while anything after midnight or before noon is bumped up to $30/hr.

For all of this, our only requirement is that you must be eligible to be a student employee at MIT. All MIT affiliates are of course welcome to join us, but we are only allowed to pay eligible students.
What is the time commitment?▲
There is no required time commitment once you become a member!

The initial training takes a few hours, but after that, you are free to participate in as many or as few events as you like. We regularly send out requests to our member list for help working events as they come up, at which point members can sign up if they want. Once you commit to working an event we do expect you to actually show up, but there is never a requirement to sign up for events in the first place.
Do I need to have any lighting experience?▲
No! We welcome everyone, and really mean it. We heavily rely on on-the-job training, and generally expect most members to join having never even touched a theatrical light. After all, we are all students, and we're at MIT to learn!
How do I join?▲
All you need to do is complete the safety training, which we do 2-3 times at the beginning of each semester. That’s it!
