12 Nov 2007 -- Clothing Design Contest Results

The results for the EECS GSA Clothing Design Contest are in! Congratulations to Kevin Brokish for submitting the winning design!

11 Nov 2007 - Clothing Design Contest Submissions are Online!

The voting for the EECS GSA Clothing Design Contest will take place at the general body meeting tomorrow, November 12th, at 5:30 PM in the Grier Room (34-401). You are encouraged to attend the meeting, view the designs, and vote for your favorite. The designs are available for viewing here.

31 Oct 2007 - Deadline for EECS GSA Sweatshirt Design Contest Extended!

The submission deadline for the contest has been extended to 11:59 PM EDT, Friday, November 9, 2007. See the contest guidelines for details.

16 Oct 2007 - EECS GSA Diversity Lunch Series

This event is designed to increase awareness amoung students, and to encourage open discussions about the issues that arise in being part of a diverse group (such as MIT). We plan to run a diversity lunch series where speakers are invited to discuss different issues with students. Our first lunch will be lead by Abigail from LGBT, and our next couple of events will be geared towards international scholars/students, women in engineering, and minority education. Come and enjoy the good food and great company! The first lunch will be Wed. Oct 24th, from 12:00-1:30pm, in 32-G449.

01 Oct 2007 - EECS GSA Sweatshirt Design Contest

EECS Graduate Students Association announced our first ever shirt design contest. To foster community and heighten our sense of group identity, the GSA will be subsidizing sweatshirts that EECS graduate students can purchase featuring the winning design on the back. Produce a design, either alone or with your EECS friends.

01 Oct 2007 - Public Service Initiative

This fall marks the EECS GSA's first Public Service Initiative. By helping to spread information about service opportunities, we'll be facilitating volunteer work of interested graduate students, and we'll be recording how many hours of service we log as a department. Our goal is to achieve fifty participants at a minimum of five hours of service each, for a total of two hundred fifty hours. The program is still being organized, so now is your chance to get involved! Contact Ted Golfinopoulos (golfit) for more information.

10 Apr 2007 - Seventh Amendment Passed

The Seventh Amendment to the Constitution and By-Laws of the EECS GSA was ratified, going into effect on May 1, 2007.

19 Mar 2007 - Nominations Open for Officer Positions

Nomimations are now open for Officer positions. Elections for the 2007-2008 EECS GSA Officers will be held on Monday, April 9, 2007. For details about the nomination and voting processes, please check out the April 2007 Election Website.

19 Mar 2007 - Proposed Seventh Amendment

The Proposed Seventh Amendment to the Constitution and By-Laws of the EECS GSA will be voted upon shortly before the elections on April 9.

12 Mar 2007 - Three Amendments Passed

The Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Amendments to the By-Laws of the EECS GSA were passed, going into effect on March 12, April 9, and May 1, respectively.


2006

14 Nov 2006 - New EECS GSC Representatives

First-year students Dan Weller and Jack Chu are the new EECS representatives to the MIT Graduate Student Council (GSC) in addition to the current ones (Demba Ba, Tim Cho, and Noah Stein). Welcome!

31 Oct 2006 - EECS-REFS Application Available

EECS REFS (Resources for Easing Friction and Stress) serve an important role in the EECS graduate population. We are looking for people to apply. As an EECS REFS, you will be trained to mediate conflicts (between students) and serve as resources to graduate students in the EECS department. EECS REFS are not expected to find solutions to every situation they encounter; instead, they should direct graduate students in need to the professional resources and services MIT offers when necessary. The application is available online here [EECS-REFS Application]. The application is due on November 8.

24 Oct 2006 - Name of "Advocacy Committee" Changed to "Diversity Committee"

The General Body Meeting on October 24, 2006 approved an amendment to the by-laws to change the name of the Advocacy Committee to the Diversity Committee by a vote of 46-0-4 (for-against-abstaining). Please check out the text of the amendment.

11 May 2006 - EECS Departmental Representatives to the GSC Added to ExecComm

The General Body Meeting on May 11, 2006 approved an amendment to the by-laws to add the EECS GSC reps to the EECS GSA ExecComm by a vote of 20-0-2 (for-against-abstaining). Please check out the text of the amendment.

Committee Chairs Confirmed

The Chairs of EECS GSA Committees appointed by the new 2006-2007 Officers have been confirmed by majority votes at the General Body Meeting on May 11, 2006. Please check out the people page to see who they are.

Feedback Requested for a P/D/F Option for Graduate Students

We are currently working to have the Institute adopt a policy to allow graduate students the option of taking subjects that are not required for their programs on pass/D/fail, just as undergraduate juniors and seniors can. We would appreciate any feedback regarding the idea. The proposal is available here: Proposal for a Graduate P/D/F Option. Please send comments to grad-pdf.

Advocacy Committee Created

The General Body Meeting on April 6, 2006 approved an amendment to the by-laws to create an Advocacy Committee by a vote of 30-0-4 (for-against-abstaining). Please check out the text of the amendment.

Jay Peak Ski Trip!

The GSA is sponsoring a trip with the MIT Snowriders up to Jay Peak Resort in Vermont on Sunday February 19th. Spaces are expected to go fast, so find out more and signup for a day on the mountain with your fellow students.

The EECS GSA is a new group designed to bring graduate students in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology out of the many corners of campus in which we sit to share experiences, strengthen our communication with faculty and administration, and improve student life within the department.
