1.1.5 Figures
Figures (including sketches of the experimental apparatus and graphs)
display at a glance the principle of operation or the qualitative impact
of data. All figures are identified in a written document by a figure
number and an accompanying descriptive caption (number and caption go
below the figure). In an oral presentation figure are titled above the
figure and no number is given.
Figures of sketches should not be overly ornamented or fussy, but clear
and schematic.
Graphs must have axes clearly labeled and units of measurement clearly
identified. Data point must be visible, curves identified by callouts.
