The Third International Conference on Carbon Dioxide Removal

Last update 30 April 1997

The Third International Conference on Carbon Dioxide Removal met from September 9th through September 11th in Cambridge, MA. There were 250 delegates from 26 countries. The conference was hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Energy Laboratory and sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). Co-sponsors were the Research Institute of Innovative Technology (RITE) and the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) in Japan, ABB Asea Brown Boveri in Switzerland, and the IEA Greenhouse Gas R&D Programme in the UK.

This series of conferences was originated by Prof. Wim Turkenburg and his colleagues at the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands. ICCDR-1 was held in March 1992 in Amsterdam, and ICCDR-2 was held in Kyoto in October 1994. Two important changes were made for future conferences. First, the IEA Greenhouse Gas R&D Programme will become the sanctioning organization. Secondly, the name will change to the International Conference on Greenhouse Gas Control Technologies (GHGT). The next conference, GHCT-4, will be organized by ABB Asea Brown Boveri and will be held August 31-September 2, 1998, in Interlaken, Switzerland.

The written proceedings from ICCDR-3 will contain 111 papers. Copies for conference participants will be mailed the week of May 12. Additional copies may be ordered directly from the publisher. For further information on the contents of the proceedings:
