Keeping a Visual Record of Campus
Drawing Information Systems (DIS) is responsible for drawing-based computing systems that document MIT’s buildings, rooms, and landscape. The group, part of Campus Planning & Design, maintains the Space Accounting database including floor plans, space inventory, and the campus basemap. DIS uses these Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools:
- CAD system for production of construction and facility documents
- GIS applications for campus mapping projects
- Space accounting system for maintaining Institute floor plans and associated space inventory
- Document management system to manage and provide access to construction and record documents of Institute buildings and campus infrastructure
MIT DoF CAD Guidelines [PDF] establish AutoCAD standards that must be used by architects, engineers, contractors and other consultants working for MIT so that construction and infrastructure records are accessible.
