Albany Street garageUsed Book Fair
Grounds worker John Gale is on his way to deliver donated books in support of the Community Giving campaign’s Book Sale. Show your support and stop by the Bush Room on Thursday, Nov. 3 and Friday, Nov. 4 between 9 AM and 5 PM. 100% of proceeds from books sales will benefit the MIT Community Service Fund and the United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley.

MIT employees and retirees can also contribute to the Community Giving at MIT campaign via payroll deduction or as a one-time gift.

We’ll be at the Vendor Fair on Thursday, 9/22 from 9 AM-2 PM to answer questions and talk about what’s new. Learn about our Commuter Connections program. Find out what’s the latest in green cleaning and recycling. Hear about the newest technologies being used to track packages and for key distribution. Albany Street garageAlbany Garage Closure
In order to complete the most recent phase of construction at the Albany Garage, it will be necessary to close the Garage from Friday, September 2 at 9 PM through Monday, September 5 at 5 PM. Vehicles will not be able to enter or exit the garage during this time. Parkers with a valid MIT parking permit can park in any lot during the weekend. Further information about parking after hours is available on the Commuter Connections pages.

Facilities invites you to report public space issues using our module, Building Services, within MIT Mobile. Sometimes we see things in public areas and aren’t sure if they’ve been reported. Use this mobile application to send us the information. Include a photo, too. A work order will be created to have the issue corrected.

 

Building E15Facilities Customer Forum
June 29, 2011; Building E15 - Bartos Theater
Learn what the newest trends are and what's ahead. Presenters include John DiFava, Marty Dugal and Ruth Davis. Executive Vice President Terry Stone will also be in attendance. Presentations are from 2 - 3 PM followed by refreshments in the lobby outside of Bartos Theater. At the reception you'll have an opportunity to chat with our Operations Managers.

 

Rob LyonsCommencement 2011
Facilities employees perform many tasks for Commencement. Our Repair and Maintenance staff go to work uncovering the footings for the stage, putting up the protective railings, hooking up electricity, and more. The Grounds staff cut the grass and plant flowers to beautify the stage. Custodial Services helps set up the chairs and then cleans up afterward. Every year it’s a team effort and all hands are on deck.

 

Memorial DriveStreet Sweeping is Underway
Drivers who park on Memorial Drive should be aware that there will be no parking in designated areas on the third Wednesday of the month from 8 AM to noon, from April 20 through November. The Department of Conservation and Recreation DCR) has started its annual program of monthly street-sweeping along selected roadways in the Boston area to clean those roadways and improve the quality of storm water runoff.

 

Snow pileSnow contest results
The sun and warm temperatures melted the snow pile rapidly as the contest entry deadline neared. The result was that the snow pile melted under the 70 degree, record-breaking day on Friday, March 18. 467 people submit guesses before the deadline of 5 PM and eleven of them were correct. The winner chosen in the drawing of correct guesses is Nicole Silva, Events Registration Assistant in Conference Services. Congratulations to Nicole and thanks to all who submitted a guess.

Building E62Facilities' Engineers give tour of Sloan Building
As part of Energy Futures Week during IAP, Faciliites' Engineers Peter Cooper and Frank Higson will give tours of the new Sloan building highlighting its energy efficient features. Tours will be given Wednesday, January 12 at 1 PM and 2 PM. For more information about the tours and how to RSVP, visit the IAP website.

 

Melody Craven, Ruth Davis, and Jennifer GarlandCraigie Project Impacts Commuters
Effective Saturday, January 8, 2011, MassDOT will close all inbound travel lanes on Route 28 southbound at the intersection of Land Boulevard for approximately 12 weeks as part of the Craigie Drawbridge Rehabilitation Project. The drawbridge carries McGrath O’Brien Highway between Land Boulevard in Cambridge and Leverett Circle in Boston.
