Watching Over MIT Night and Day

The Operations Center monitors all life safety and mechanical systems, including fire alarms and heating and cooling systems, for 142 campus buildings. Team members work 24 hours every day to ensure quick response for emergencies and to make sure that critical systems function.

An Operations Center renovation in Building E19 in 2000 provided new console monitors, a security camera, and other upgrades aimed at efficiency and ergonomic working conditions. Workstations were consolidated so operators can monitor six screens simultaneously. Access to the center has also been restricted to cut down on interruptions and distractions for systems operators.
