Welcome
Hello friends! Welcome to the website for The Friends of the Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation. The purpose of the Friends of DAPER is to assist in organization and fund raising for DAPER, the department we MIT alums once knew as the MITAA (MIT Athletic Association). In recognition of its larger role, it has been renamed the Department of Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation (DAPER).
The group was organized in mid-2003 and there are a number of reasons for creating this entity:

We would like to increase the resources available for fund raising by supplementing Institute staff with alumni volunteers.

We want to benefit from any fundraising experience these alumni may already have.

We would like to share ideas and experiences across the different programs, and this group can serve as a sounding board for future fund raising efforts.

Finally, we would like to increase alumni involvement because the alumni that feel more connected will become more generous over time.
Since we have never done anything like this before, there is an experimental element to this effort and the roles and responsibilities of this group will evolve over time.
