About: the bad guys

The biggest difference that I noticed between the two movies
is what happens to the bad guys. In the French version, the
three men decided to make a deal with the bad guys and cooperated
with them against the police. In the American version, the three
men cooperated with the police and helped to arrest the bad guys.
What do you think is the reason for this drastic difference between
the two versions? Did the American scriptwriter change the plot
because he thinks Americans believe in justice more, or because he thinks
the extra action would make the movie more exciting?
