Option Description

 

The Financial Technology Option (FTO) consists of six courses: four in Finance, offered by the Sloan School of Management and two finance-related technology courses, offered by EECS and other departments.

 

         Required Finance Courses
 


The four required Finance courses are the platform for the Certificate:
1) 15.407 Finance Theory
2) 15.408 Quantitative Investment Management*
3) 15.437 Options and Futures Markets
4) Finance Elective: one from approved list

15.407 Finance Theory, was developed specifically for the FTO program. This course covers some of the same topics as 15.401, but is geared towards students with strong analytic and computational skills who may have limited exposure to micro and macro economics.  

As of Fall 2001, FTO students are required to enroll in 15.407; 15.401 will not be accepted as a substitute.

* 15.433 Investments may satisfy the 15.408 requirement only if 15.433 was taken in Fall 2002 or earlier.

Non-MIT Students

The FTO program is available only to students currently enrolled in a degree-granting program (MBA or Ph.D.) at MIT.
