The students lived in suburban apartments just 15 minutes away from work by car. One student whose apartment was situated on Santa Clara University Campus described the location as ideal. The locale is filled with after-work activities. Linear Technologies provided its interns with temporary housing for about a month. A car is considered moderately necessary for getting to work, although Linear Technologies does not provide cars for its interns.
The students' projects, involving product development, were assigned upon arrival. One student chose a project out of several options; the other told Linear Technologies what she was interested in, and the company found a suitable project. The projects were extremely interesting to both students, and of moderate importance to the work of their groups. Both students felt their projects were challenging. Although one student felt underqualified for his task, Linear Technology provided the chance to learn a great deal very quickly.
The work environment at Linear Technologies is fairly laid-back, and dress is somewhat casual. Students have offices, which may be shared with others. The co-workers are extremely competent and treated the students with a great deal of respect. The available equipment is state-of-the-art. There was not much interaction with other students, although Linear Technologies did organize some picnics.
No health or dental benefits are paid by Linear Technologies, but moving costs and the fifth-year, first-term tuition are covered. The salary is slightly below average for the West Coast, but housing subsidies are provided for the first month.
The students reported that Linear Technologies is a great company and that they worked in great groups. They would choose to work at there again and would consider working there after graduation.
"I will leave Linear this summer after designing a cutting-edge IC from scratch--I can't complain."Statistics:
