Hi! I'm Hannah Wirtshafter, PhD

Mobirise

I’m a Chicago area native also currently residing in Chicago after many years away. I received my BS in biological sciences from Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh, then lived in Cambridge for 7 years work on my PhD (also in biology) in Matt Wilson’s lab at MIT. I’ve also done research at the Field Museum of Natural History and in a stem cell lab!

Having lived on the east coast and in the midwest, I firmly believe the great lakes are better than the ocean and I will die on that hill (or drown in that lake, as the case may be).

Scientifically, I'm a big fan of Edward Tolman, neuroethology, and basic exploratory science.

When I’m not doing science, I’m generally pursuing one of my many many hobbies. I am particularly fond of knitting, extravagant baking, and tending to my absurd number of houseplants. I also have three cats and one is named after a biologist! I also love to travel; I studied abroad in Denmark from January to June 2011. (My favorite trip of shorter length was to the Galapagos in 2012).
