Brass Instrument Making: The Natural Horn
Chris Stratton
Mon Jan 8, 09am-05:00pm, 44-023 (Shop), 1st day only - Sched. TBD

Enrollment limited: advance sign up required (see contact below)
Limited to 3 participants.
Participants requested to attend all sessions (non-series)
Prereq: Basic hornplaying ability
Fee: 75.00 for supplies to build horn.

This year's IAP Brass Instrument Making class will offer participants the chance to learn traditional and modern techniques for turning sheet metal into a musical instrument while building copies of a classical-era French hand horn. These instruments are substantially more versatile and easier to play than last year's Baroque trumpets, so we stand the chance of really being able to perform with them. But their greater complexity will require substantially more work: 2-3 full days during every week of IAP plus occasional weekends. While no previous metalworking experience is required, participants will need to have a basic ability to play the horn to take part in the class.
