Intro to Sun Style Tai Chi for Health

Jason Thomas, Health Coach & Fitness Specialist

Enrollment: Unlimited: No advance sign-up
Attendance: Participants welcome at individual sessions
Prereq: None

Sun style, the youngest of the five major Tai Chi branches [created by Sun Lu-tang (1861-1932)], is fluid and smooth with a higher stance (compared to Yang style), placing less stress on the joints. The class plays with the 73 competition form—gentle movements that emphasize posture and stability coordinated with the breath and an underlying current of spiral-moving, internal energy (Qi) so as to cultivate mindfulness and relaxation.  Instructors use the proven Stepwise Progressive Teaching method for clarity and quick-learning.  Participants must wear sneakers or flat, well-fitting shoes. Be sure to check with your health care provider before participating in this or any program of progressive exercise.

Attend one or all sessions, however be mindful that this is a progressive 3-week class,  building on the skills and movements learned in the prior week.

Instructors are certified with the Tai Chi for Health Institute (http://taichiforhealthinstitute.org/).
