IDW: THE HYDRA PROJECT

THE HYDRA PROJECT | INTRODUCTION | HARDWARE

Attached to a doctored US military standard issue ALICE pack frame (with optional shelf frame) are five tentacles. The tentacles are flexible, modular pvc hosing manufactured by Loc-Line. At the end of each tentacle exists a USB QuickCam, USB light, or USB microphone, in a variety of configurations to be determined by the user. All USB peripherals are hot-swappable and plug-and-play ensuring maximum daisy-chaining flexibility to the user. All USB peripherals will be plugged into one or two small USB hubs affixed to the rear of the Hydra frame. The USB hub will be plugged into to a laptop attached to the ALICE optional shelf frame. All USB devices will receive power directly from the laptop eliminating the need for external batteries.

At a later phase of development, the Hydra may incorporate robotic and analog electronics should the trade-off with mobility, power and weight be attractive.
