Seminar on Growing a Personal Research Program

Fall 2009

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This "Seminar on Growing a Personal Research Program" cannot guarantee such output, but it will help by organizing a concerted effort.

Seminar leader Tom Allen can work no magic, but is an old-timer, who has developed some wisdom over the years and is committed to helping young Irish social scientists attain recognition in management research.

Frequently, the need for new research ideas can be a source of anxiety for young faculty.  On the other hand, many if not most research projects, produce far more questions than answers.  Past research thus becomes a fertile source for future research ideas.

We will begin the seminar by examining the work of some well-known scientists to see the degree to which they developed a research career based on this principle.

We will then proceed on to examine one another’s research to develop new research ideas and develop testable hypothesis based on each participant’s earlier work.
