Welcome

The AGV project takes advantage of the m:media platform developed at MIT to provide a collaborative learning environment. The feature of search and retrieval enabled by categorical tags gives students a platform for flexible interaction with the archival materials. All items in the archive have such descriptive categorical tags.? The video segments have detailed tags such as who the people are, location, turn-taking, change of topic, ambience, sentence patterns, etc.? The tags allow students to search for and pull out the documents in the archive by a single key word or more.? Different search criteria generate different collections of materials.? Students thus are enabled to explore and interpret the materials in many different ways.?Juxtaposition of different points of views and connections among the documents also deepens students’ understanding of an issue. User-initiated annotation, another feature of Metamedia, allow students to annotate any item or any user-defined groups of items in the archive.? Students can also upload their own digital documents and provide annotations.?Other users, when given access, can view and respond to these annotations.?The collaboration and the sharing of materials, ideas and perspectives produce an effective and dynamic learning community both on the web and in the classroom.
