About John and Carey

Where they come from

John grew up in Ringwood, New Jersey and Collegeville, Pennsylvania. He moved to Boston in 1993 after graduating from Washington University in St. Louis and had many great adventures. John is currently the manager of the reknowned MIT Press Bookstore and has worked at MIT for the past 13 years.

Carey grew up in Rochester, New York and then spent 4 years in Buffalo getting her BSW (that's a Bachelor's in Social Work). She moved to Boston in 1999 to attend Simmons College, had many great adventures, and earned her Masters in Social Work. She now works as a Clinical Social Worker at an agency called The Home for Little Wanderers providing counseling to children and their families in the Boston Public Schools and at the clinic. As you might imagine, she has some good stories.

How they met

John met Carey sometime in 2000. The exact date remains a topic of debate. He had a new roommate that reconnected him to a much-loved dive bar in Allston, Mass named "The Model Cafe". It so happened that this was also a favorite of Carey's . They met each other there and both made a lot of other good friends there too. Over the months they found that they shared a lot of the same interests like music, art, books, gardening, cooking, eating, and spending time with family and friends. After getting to know each other over various nights out, house parties, and music shows, they began dating in September 2001.

The proposal

In May, 2008 John got down on one knee in our garden and proposed the old fashioned way. We made it official...we were getting married.
