STATE
UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK AT STONY BROOK SCHOOL OF MEDICINE
INTERNATIONAL HEALTH INTEREST GROUP
The International Health Interest Group (IHIG) is a
student run organization in the School of Medicine at
the State University of New York at Stony Brook that
seeks to promote awareness of global health issues
amongst students and faculty. In the recent past,
interest in global health both at the faculty and
student level at Stony Brook University has surged and
led to the creation of funds for international health
research, funding for a speaker’s series on
international health, Spanish classes for medical
students, and a concentration on international health in
the new public health program. To facilitate student,
resident and faculty exchanges, student members of IHIG
created Stony Brook Global Health Collaborations (SBGHC),
a 501(c)(3) organization within the Stony Brook
Foundation. SBGHC seeks to create partnerships with
organizations and medical schools abroad to promote
ethical and sustainable projects in international
health.
