Dating back to 1246, Sainte Chapelle seems to be the representation of the medieval ideal of the Christian faith. Smaller than Notre Dame, Sainte Chapelle is by no means less impressive, with its upper level formed by exquisite stained glass windows depicting scenes from the Bible. The chapel was made to hold relics such as fragments of the Crown of Thorns and the True Cross, which were purchased by Louis IX for much more than the price of the chapel’s construction.
