As you may already be aware, in the event of US invasion of Iraq, there are day after walk-outs planned all over the city and the country. Here at MIT, the theme is "We will not be cogs in the war machine." Hundreds of students, faculty, and staff are expected to participate. A copy of the call can be found here.

We are asking faculty to support this expression in whatever way you feel comfortable. We ask you to consider signing on to as many of the following options as you feel comfortable.

I will allow my students, teaching assistants, and staff to participate in a campus-wide walkout in the event of war on Iraq. I will not penalize my students and staff for participating in the walkout. My students and staff will have the option of making up any work missed due to the walkout.

I will encourage my peers and associates to participate in the walkout. When necessary, I will lobby senior administrative officials (including deans, department heads, lab directors, personnel officers) to allow all members of the MIT community to participate without reprisal. I will let my position be known via department-wide email or other appropriate means.

I will cancel or reschedule my class and join the walk-out.
