three or more rows of gather made by small running stitches in parallel lines. Used to produce fullness at tops of gloves, skirts, sleeves, and swimsuits. may be made by using a large stitch on the sewing machine and then pulling the bobbin thread to form gathers, or by using elastic thread on the bebbin.
