raglan

sleeve extending to neckline, set-in by seams slanting from the underarm at the front and back. a variation is made with an additional seam down the outside of the arm and called a three-seamed raglan. the design originated with Lord Raglan (Fitzroy James Henry Somerset), a British General who lost his arm in the Crimean War and had a coat designed with a special sleeve.
