Esther Torrego is Professor of Linguistics at the Hispanic Studies Department and director of the undergraduate Linguistics Program at UMass, Boston . Her research interests include syntactic theory, comparative syntax, Romance linguistics and language acquisition. Recent publications relevant to the course are "Aspect in the Prepositional System of Romance" (John Benjamins); (with David Pesestsky) "Tense to C: Causes and Consequences," in Ken Hale. A Life in Language (MIT Press); and (with David Pesestsky) "Tense, Case, and the Nature of Syntactic Categories" in The Syntax of Time (MIT Press).
