In order to provide more territories for my cichids, I bought this giant plastic fake rock thing. It is sold as a "Dragon Rock". Okay, okay, so it looks like a big hunk of styrofoam, but let a little algae get on it and boom: fake rock.
My cichlids really like the Dragon Rock. The favorite spot is the lowest cave, next to the gravel. Just about every fish has tried to take it over. Here a male Maylandia callainos is trying to hold it for his own.
A male Maylandia crabro drives him out!
A juvenile Melanochromis chipokae tries to take the cave, but chickens out.
Even a feeder goldfish tries to take refuge there.
But eventually the male Maylandia callainos drives him back out again.
Finally the common pleco settles it once and for all by making it impossible for anyone else to get in. :-)
