In the spring of my sophomore year at MIT I took a class called 2.007: Design and Manufacturing I. In this class, we had to build a robot to complete tasks for a competition. Ultimately, I would say that my robot was well-built, but poorly engineered. What I mean by that is that I didn’t do my best to effectively document my thought process or my progress. I just wrote down some quick calculations in my lab notebook and made the parts of the machine on the fly. There was a lot of trial and error, too much in fact. I should have done more calculations and spent more time working on the Solidworks design. If I did, I wouldn’t have had to make so many ad hoc repairs. I’ve learned from my mistakes and I’m ready to work harder to become a better engineer.
