The focus of this class is manufacturing: how products are made and how do these processes work on a large scale to produce millions of products. We learn everything from machining to assembly to budget optimization.
In particular, the way that we learn about mass production is by making 50 yo-yos. We form small groups which
In 2011, MIT is celebrating it’s 150th anniversary. The professor said in one lecture that we have the option to make our yo-yos to whatever theme we want, but if there are groups that choose to make their yo-yos “MIT 150” themed, then he would choose the best one, and when there is an open house for LMP (The Laboratory for Manufacturing and Productivity), the group will make yo-yos and hand them out in real time.
Our group ultimately accepted the challenge. Although our yo-yo is MIT 150 themed, no one in our group liked the MIT 150 logo, so we made one of our own. We decided to make 3 interlocked brass rats, one with 1861, one with +150, and one with 2011.
