One-on-one Health
Consultations
Health educators are available to discuss your personal
health issues, answer questions, direct you to MIT health
resources, and generally support you in making informed
health decisions. Confidential consultations can take place
in person or by phone.
Custom Workshops
We can design and conduct custom workshops and health programs
in your office, lab, residence hall, fraternity, sorority,
or independent living group. Workshops include health information
and interactive discussions focusing on everything from
sexual issues to eating disorders to stress management.
Wellness Classes
Our many low-cost wellness classes include yoga, meditation,
weight management, fitness, and many others. Most classes
are offered throughout the year and run for six to 10 weeks.
IAP Program
During MIT's Independent Activity Period (IAP) each January,
we sponsor non-credit lectures and workshops on a broad
range of health issues. Experts from MIT Medical and other
Boston-area medical centers present programs on everything
from the promises of popular diets to the tension-releasing
benefits of Tai Chi.
Parenting Groups (for
parents and parents-to-be)
We sponsor two weekly support groups for parents: the Parents
and Toddlers Group and the New Mothers Group. Each session
is led by a child psychologist and features a presentation
and informal discussion around a specific topic.
Multimedia Library
We invite you to stop by and browse our books, videos,
and pamphlets on nutrition, sexual health, repetitive
stress injuries, parenting, aging, mental health, and
many other health and wellness topics. You can check
out most books and videos for up to three weeks, free
of charge. We also offer audio downloads of relaxation
exercises.
MedlinePlus
As a special service to the MIT Community, we provide access to MedlinePlus, a trusted source of reliable, timely, and unbiased information and research to help you make informed decisions about medications, laboratory tests, clinical services, surgical procedures, and other health matters.
MedLINKS
(for students)
MedLINKS is a residentially based peer advocacy program
comprised of trained student representatives, each one called
a "MedLINK." Most living groups, dorms, and fraternities
have at least one resident MedLINK who offers private, accessible,
one-on-one peer support, as well as information and referrals,
for a range of student concerns, including nutrition and
fitness, food and body-image issues, sexual health, sexual
and relationship violence, substance use and abuse, mental
health, stress and sleep issues, and physical ailments.
Many MedLINKs have also completed CPR training, which allows
them to respond to incidents of chest pain, choking, difficulty
with breathing, and other emergencies. To find a MedLINK in your
living group, visit the "Find Us" section of the MedLINKS web site.
If you or a student you know is interested in becoming
a MedLINK, please complete our online
application or contact Julie Banda at 617-253-1318.
